DEARING DORMAN, born in New Haven CT, Dec 20, 1797 removed to Batavia NY in 1804 and thence to this town of Sherman Chautauqua CO NY, on lot 32 later to lot 22. In 1858 he removed to the Village, where he now resides, (1875) He was the first settler in this town and raised the first crop, He was maried to 1818 to Hulda PERKINS by whom he had 12 children plus 2 who died young;

6 , Walter married Mary ANDERSON, lived Sherman

Mrs Huldah DORMAN died in 1866 and Dearing Sr. remarried for his second wife, Mary, the Widow of Addison ELDERKIN, nee HORTON

The first settler in the town of SHERMAN, Dearing DORMAN, who came from near Batavia, NY in 1823. The next year after his settlement he raised an acre of wheat (30 bushels)- the first crop raised in this town. The same year or the next, his son Archibald was born- the first birth in town.
On SR 430 there is a large boulder with a bronze marker noting the place of this first wheat field. Located between Findley Lake and Sherman

Deering, is buried in Sherman Cemetery located on SR 430 just outside of town.
