I came across an entry in the Loudoun Co., Va. record books that I though I would pass along and follow it up with a question.
Deed book C pg. 676 - July 6, 1763 - Francis Peyton and Frances his wife to James Sinkler of Chester Co., Pa. Lands inherited from Valentine Peyton decd. on Goose Creek, 350 acres for 250 pounds.
Deed book D pg. 379 - Mar. 4, 1765 - Robert Peyton and Anne his wife to James Sinkler both of Loudoun Co. 150 acres, North of Goose Creek, land patented by Capt. John Middleton, 40 pounds.
It would appear that James Sinkler/Sinclair moved to Loudoun Co. between 1763 & 1765. And, many years later;
Deed book 2B pg. 162 - Nov. 24, 1801, James Sinclair & Mary his wife to James Hixon, 330 acres, 1485 pounds, on Goose Creek first patented to Thomas Ourley (unsure of this spelling), lands adjacent to John Sinclair & James Mercer.
On Dec. 12, 1767 Martha McNabb attended the wedding of Isaac Nickols to Rebekah Gibson. The Gibson's transferred from the Bradford MM. in 1767.
In Deed book L page 76 is a land transfer to Isaac Nichols from his father Thomas Nichols of New Castle, Pa.
Now in 1785 & 1787 a James McNabb attend 2 weddings at South Fork MM in Loudoun Co., Va. Both were marriages of James Sinclair & Mary his wife's children.
There were other Sinclair's in Loudoun Co. at this time, but they appear to have come from Stafford Co., Va. and I am told that they were not Quakers. I now believe after find the above info on James coming from Chester Co., Pa. that there were 2 separate Sinclair families in this part of Va.
Do you have any info on this James Sinclair/Sinkler? If so, do you know for sure that he was a Quaker? And further, have you ever come across a relationship between the Sinclair's, McNabb's, Gibson's or Gregg's?
thanks & Happy New Year,
Mike Sanders
