I am looking for leads on my ancestors' parents, especially August John TIETZ. August John TIETZ was born April 30 1825 at Doetz, Kreis Soldin, Prussia. He married Augusta KANT who was born 19 February 1828 in either Pemmern or Posen or Poznan. (She lists all of these on various U.S. census records.)Brandenburg in East Prussia is also mentioned. These people were definitely from East Prussia.

Augusta KANT TIETZ was the daughter of John KANT and Johanna KRUEGER or KRUGER. They sailed for the United States as a group including the following: August John TIETZ and his wife Augusta KANT TIETZ, Johanna KRUGER or KRUEGER,and Ernestine KANT. August John and Augusta Tietz had a son born in Grand Haven, Michigan,USA(where they had settled)on 10 October 1857. A Frederick KANT lived in Grand Haven with this group. He later changed his last name to KENT and disappeared from all records in the area.

I have information handed down through the family that these KANT individuals were descendants of Johann Heinrich KANT (born about 1730) who was a brother to the German philosopher Immanuael KANT (born 1724 in Konigsberg). Their father was Johann Georg KANT (born 1683 or 1688 and who was married to Anna Regina) who was the son of Hans KANT. Hans owned a tavern at Memel. Family lore says that the father of hans KANT was Richard KANT, who moved from Scotland to Konigsberg in East Prussia and that the name was originally KENT in Scotland. I cannot verify this and would lke to know if anyone knows anything about these people.

I have not information about who were the parents of August John TIETZ. I would welcome any information about any of these people.
