Classification: Query
Daniel Witner b. ca. 1803 d. May 1874 is buried across the street from St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hamburg along with his frst wife Sophia and second Lydia.(Liddie) A daughter Susanna Witner married to Samuel Heckman is dau. of Daniel and Sophia and buried next to Sophia. Sophias stone is very old and barely readable. Another stone beside Susanna is partially missing but the year 1791 is readable.
In 1880 census Lydia is living with dau. (step?) Wilhelmina and her husband Jessey Adams and family in Hamburg.
In 1860 census, Daniel Witner is a tailor in Hamburg. Cannot locate Daniel in 1870. Also cannot locate the Samuel Heckman family after 1860.
My gggrandfather Allen (Allamandus) b. 1839 was living with his sis Susanna Witner Heckman and her family in the 1850 Census in Hamburg and went to IN some time before 1861.
A Jacob Wittner b. ca. 1835 is living with a Hamburg family also and may be a son of Daniel.
Gut tells me Sophia died before 1850 and Daniel left Hamburg for a while leaving the kids with relatives.
These are my Berks County PA Witners so far. I will search for more graves in Hamburg when the snow melts.
Can anyone add to this data?
