I wonder if someone who has knowledge of Marengo County history would recognize this.

This is a church letter that was carried by my gg grandmother Jane Boyd Wells Woods-presumably when the family left Alabama in 1829 and moved to Texas.


"Marengo, Alabama, Nov. 7th 1829. The bearer herof, Jane Boyd Wells, has been an accepted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Marengo Circuit, Mount Zion Meeting house." signed, "Hugh McPhail, A.P."

This letter was found in her papers long after she died in 1866 in Yorktown, DeWitt County, Texas.
