I am looking for my grandmother. I have never met nor seen not heard from. I have very, very little info on my mother's family. In fact, all I have ever met on her side is my Uncle and grandfather. Grandfather died when I was 2, so I do not really remember him. He was a "ladies" man, and traveled throughout the US, including Old Mexico. Mom said she thought he had been married 3 or 4 times, and my uncle says he is not sure. They have other brother/sisters from these other marriages. They do not have any contact with them, nor know much of them. They know some of their names. My mother's mother (Catherine Brickhouse) left my grandfather when my mother was 2. My mother has not seen nor heard from her since. Not a picture, nothing. I am so eager to see a picture of her, or something.
I do know that my grandfather's parents were Daniel Rosco Brinson, from Beulaville, NC and Julie Franice Waley of Richland, NC. I do not know if they are living, I am pretty sure they are not. I also know that Grandfather's first wife's name was Ellen, but not her whole name. They had 3 children, and my mother said in the family bible it has their names but no dates. It says they were married in Bennettsville, SC on Nov. 27, 1927.
And please don't think I am wanting someone else to do all the work for me, I just need guidance in how and where I need to look. I have not done this before, and I think it would be fun. I have the fondest idea how to even read a census. I want to obtain a copy of my grandparents marriage certificate. But my mother nor uncle know where they were married. It's really sad that neither of them have tried to do this before me. I am already 29, and my mother is 50, her brother I think 56. Mother has not desire to know anything of her mother (Catherine) because of her abandoning her and her brother. But, I told my mother that things happen for a reason. We just don't know what. One other thing, mama said she had a half sister that use to work at the Kinston hospital, but by the time she found out this, she had been transferred to another hospital. All I know is her name was Rose Lee. I know that mother and my uncle were born in Portsmouth and I am wandering if Va is where they (Kirby R. Brinson and Catherine V. Brickhouse) were married. Does them seem to be impossible to you? Is there any hope?
