I'm kind of at a roadblock here & am hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am looking for information about my great-great grandfather, Thornton Bishop (given name is "Thomas Thornton Bishop") & his father (my great-great-great grandfather), Dr. Gilbert Bishop.
Gilbert was born in NY in 1802. I'm not sure where, or who his parents were but I did find a Gilbert Bishop listed in the 1800, 1810 & 1820 New York census. He was shown as living in Yorktown, Westchester County.
Dr. Bishop married a lady named Charlotte (born abt. 1800, died abt. 1845) & they lived in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio. They had 4 children; Hamilton (born abt. 1830), Austin (born abt. 1832), Gilbert (born abt. 1842) & Charlotte (born abt. 1845).
After Charlotte's death, Dr. Bishop married Elizabeth Kitchen (born abt. 1822) on December 20, 1855 in Hocking County, Ohio. Elizabeth is shown on the 1850 census as being employed by Dr. Bishop's household & having a son, David (born abt. 1847); so, presumably, she was a widow.
Dr. Bishop & Elizabeth had 3 children together; Thomas Thornton (born 12-12-1857, died 3-5-1937), Edward, & Eupemi (or "Euphema", born abt. 1856). Elizabeth's son, David is listed in later censuses as "David Bishop", instead of "David Kitchen".
Thornton married Sarah Margaret Freed (1865-1908) on April 21, 1883 in Hocking County, Ohio. They had 4 children; Charlotte May (my great-grandmother, July 28, 1887, died July 9, 1927), Harry E. (born Nov.1883), Lucy E. (born Oct. 1884), Gilbert T. (born May 1888) & Ann Elizabeth (born April 1895).
My great-grandmother, Charlotte, married John Clayton Katzenmeyer in 1904.
If anybody has any information on Gilbert & Thornton Bishop, or any of the other names that I have mentioned, I would be more than grateful! This is a branch of my family that has been VERY difficult to get a handle on!
