I recently found a reference in the Gainesville Weekly Register on the Clay County website regarding the murder of Rev. J. C. Smith by Jack Kelly. Both Rev. Smith and Jack Kelly resided in Waresville, Uvalde County, Texas. I assume that one or the other probably had come to Waresville from Clay County. Is there anyone who can tell me if it was Rev. Smith or Jack Kelly? Are there any relatives of either party who would be willing to contact me about this tragic event?
