Hi,
My 3rd great grandfather is Celestine Feis, born about 1820 in Baden, Germany. I have no idea who his parents are.

What I do know is I have his Declaration of Intention to become a citizen of the United States, dated 1837. The document is handwritten and very hard to read but it looks like it says "he personally appeared before the court in 1837 to take the oath" and then "landed at the port of New York in May of 1848." I have no idea how he could have been in Washington County, Minnesota in 1837 but not arrive until 1848. There has to be a mistake somewhere but I haven't figured it out yet.

He married Franciska Sorg (my 3rd great grandmother), also from Baden but I don't know if he married her before he left Germany or once he arrived in Minnesota. I also have nothing on her family in Germany, no idea who her parents are.

Is there anyone here who is researching either the Feis or Sorg families in Baden? If so, please contact me.
