I recently just took the DNA test from Ancestry.com and the results are way different than I expected. My results were 57% Europe West, 28% Irish, 6% Great Britain, 4% Scandinavia, 1% Italian, 1% Finnish, 1% Iberian Peninsula, 1% European Jewish and less than 1% Eastern European. The reason that these results were surprising to me was because there was way less British DNA than I expected. My maternal grandfather's parents and grandparents were immigrants from England. My paternal grandmother is descended from many of the first English settlers to come to America during the 1630's. My other grandfather is Pennsylvania Dutch and my maternal grandmother is of Irish descent. My question is why isn't the British DNA higher if I have a lot of ancestors who came from Great Britain?
