My father Matthew Henry Green went to this orphanage about 1900 aged about 4yrs ,and the tales he used to tell me were horrific at the treatment, I still have a Envelope addressed to him by my Paternal Grandmother with the curls of hair beloonging to him and his two brothers that were sent there, apparently my G Father being lots older than his wife he was a Master Mariner and had payed a penny a week each for his children to be educated if he died and he died when my father was abt 4yrs old so they were taken from my Grandmother and put in the orphanage where he had a terrible life . one story is they were taken somewhere my father thought Plynouth at age abt 6yrs and made to climb a rigging of a ship and when at the top forced to jump , that was the way of teaching them how to swim if they didnt they drowned, up to his death my father was a very excellent diver and swimmer. that is one of the story;s he told me I would like to be able to find lists of children who went in that era , or anything else any one can tell me about the orphanage , on the picture of the children one looks very much like my father but as my eysight is not what it was I cannot tell. I wonder
