Cassat, Samuel W., Pvt; mustered Sep 19, 1861; discharged Apr 25, 1864, on a surgeon's certificate; born Mar 30, 1838; died Feb 6, 1918; a shoemaker from Hunterstown, Adams County, and later caretaker of Gettysburg College; 5' 7", dark hair, brown eyes; captured at the battle of Carter's Woods; listed John Cassat of New Chester, Adams County, as next of kin; married Mary Francena Freeman November 3, 1864; children: Clara Anna Estella (b. 08/30/65), Edgar Jacob (b. 01/12/67), Effie Blanche (b. 06/03/70), Charlie Henry (b. 12/25/72 - died), Carl Milton (b. 10/24/78), and Inez Ella (b. 06/10/80 - died); died in Abilene, Dickinson County, Kansas
