I am looking for information on a JANE CHARTERIS.
We understand she was brought up and lived in the Dumfriesshire region of Scotland, most likely located east of the city of Dumfries, Amisfield Tower and Lockerbie location. Jane married John William Thorburn (Mason + Bacon Curer + Journeyman (abt 1835/6). A Journeyman is a man good at his trade with a flair for the artistic aspect of the work).
Jane and John Thorburn had 2 sons and 4 daughters.
Jane (b. 8 Nov 1838), in Johnstone Parish (babtised 11 Feb 1839, Newton, Wamphray). Grace (b. 8 Nov 1841). William (b. 1 Sept 1843). ELIZABETH (b. 1 Sept 1845). Matthew (b. 29 April 1848). Fanny (b. 3 May 1851). NB. Jane & Grace have the same birthday 3 yrs apart and William & Elizabeth have the same birthday 2 yrs apart!
The children were born in the Johnstone Parish near Lockerbie. My Grt Grandmother was Elizabeth who was the daughter of Elizabeth died 7pm 9 Feb 1917 at 40 Langside Road, Glasgow of ‘Senile decay’ aged 71yrs. John Thorburn was deceased at the time of Elizabeth’s wedding. Jane her mother (nee Charteris) was still alive at the time of Elizabeth’s marriage to John Currie on 3 June 1880.
Any help at all will be gratefully received.
Best regards, George Currie - Methven, New Zealand
