There seems to be more than one John and Samuel Broome.This is what I have: Samuel Broome b 1689 d 1771 m Marie LaTourette (a Huguenot) b 9/23/1693 baptised French Church NYC 12/6/1693. They in turn had 2M 2F who are: Abigail b 1732, Elizabeth b 1736 John b 1738 NYC and Samuel b 1734 d 8/8/1810.
John b 1738 was prepared for law by Govenor livingston of NJ but later induced by his elder brother Samuel to enter the commercial life. With his brother Samuel they conducted a major importing business. During the Revolutionary war Samuel was called a Whig and very loyal to his country. Samuel retired to Connecticut to fit out privateer ships for the destruction of British commerce. Samuel resumed business in New york City when peace was restored. being a highly ethical businessman he arranged to payoff past debts to British suppliers acquired before the start of the revolution. He succeeded John Alsop as President of the New York City Chamber of Commerce serving until 1794. Samuel was Alderman of NYC several years, city treasurer, member of the State assembly in 1800. Lt Govenor of New York until the time of his death. He was also President of the New York Insurance Co. His wife former Miss Lloyd, daughter of the Lloyd'd who owned Lloyd's Neck, Long Island.Samuel was honoured by having Broome Street (just north of Canal) in Manhattan, named after him.
