Benjamin Johnson was born about 1812 in New Brunswick, Canada or Maine. He married Elizabeth Brisley about 1833, probably in New Brunswick. They had one son Andrew born in NB about 1834. There were several other children, all probably born in Cooper, Washington, ME.

The family settled in Winnebago County about 1849.

Benjamin is said to have died about 1859. It is possible that his wife Elizabeth remarried a man named Wheeler after his death.
