This message is being posted here as well as Wythe County because of early formation of these 2 counties.
All of these men were in this area from at least 1753-1795. The following are some items concerning them:

John Noble's appraisement, by Robt.Norris, Samuel MONTGOMERY, John MONTGOMERY. Note of John McFarland, Joseph Crockett, Robert Allcorn, John Hattorn, James and John Miller, James Callhoun, Nathaniel Welshar, William MONTGOMERY, William Calhoun.
Pg.-----John MONTGOMERY, an aged witness, deposes, 11th Aug 1795, in Wythe County. Was the brother of Robert MONTGOMERY. Robert bought from Borden, senior.
Pg.---James MONTGOMERY, aged 68, deposes in Wythe County, 6 Nov 1797, that he lived with his father James, in Lancaster County, PA. His father sent deponent's oldest brother Robert MONTGOMERY to VA. to buy lands, and bought 654 acres on Catawba Creek, but one Clarke had bought part of the tract. Robert contracted as part payment to bring 2 uncommon large bells from PA. Robert left his brother John MONTGOMERY on the land, returned to PA. and then the father and the family came. John was then about 21 years old.
