I have the history on my Gibbs(Gibbes) family from the 1600's in VA, but think there must be a connection with Barbados Gibbs as well. My ancestral grandfather, Zachariah Gibbes, field commissioned COL (Loyalist) came to SC in the 1760's from VA. His 1,000 acres were forfeited with the Rev.War and his high activity with Brit. He fled to Barbados..and there are other signs of "connections" with the Islands as well. He was granted 1,000 in Nova Scotia, which he sold after 9 years and disappeared. Children were left in SC when he fled, and never heard from their father again.Going to NS in July to examine records. Wish me luck!
