Classification: Query
Surnames: Greene, McCown
Need a lookup in Sumter Co. or a copy of index to land deeds 1820-1850 of the names Green/Greene and McCown. Tell me what you'll charge if you're willing to go to the courthouse for me and I'll see if I can afford it. frances fmcw@ktc.com ALSO- check the Armstrong rolls for your family names-they are on microfilm at the Nat.'l Archives and possibly can be ordered through AGLL at your local public library. The book is "Cherokee and Chickasaw Early Census Records" compiled by Betty Wiltshire Cox-these were the plantation Indians who agreed to get off the rolls to be able to stay in Miss. and Sumter Co. Ala. was part of that area included in the Treaty at the time. My gggfa in that list was Wm. McClure of Miss.(White man with an Indian wife)-I'm not sure he wasn't Cherokee himself. You can write LDS Library in SLC for a name lookup. There are many names, not just the chiefs and the 5 families listed in the Treaty. I feel this is what's holding a lot of people up from finding their ancestors.
