My ggrandfather Patrick Silk was born in Beech Hill, Galway, in 1861 to John Silk and Bridget Molloy. (Beech Hill is very close to the Roscommon border.) Patrick came to San Francisco in 1883 and his mother and 6 siblings followed the next year. We think the Molloys were from Roscommon, but can't be sure. I have some information on other Silks in Bech Hill and Skehannah from 1830-1900 roughly that I got from the East Galway Historical Society. Maybe there is a connection.
