I have sucessfully linked, my Great grandfather, Samuel Porter b. 1853, (m.Elizabeth Robinett) and who is the son of Samuel Porter b. 1828
(m.Rebecca Marcum) as the grandson of Samuel Porter and Susanna Moore. This will most likely be challanged as many researchers have indicated other Sam's in his place. The 1860 census was my break when I find my Sam and Rebecca next to William and Mary and then to Sam and Susannah Moore. The naming patterns are exact, and Sam is the same age listed in the 1850 census with Sam and Susannah. Sam and Rebecca and William and Mary remain together in the 1870 and 1880 census where we also find their father, Sam (Susannah) living with son John S Porter as widower, and again, William and my Sam right next to them. Both of my "Sams" named their sons, Samuel, Sampson, and William F, the naming pattern continues with daughters Amanda Melvina, Dicy, Sarah. The Dates are right on.
I am still searching for a marriage date for Sam and Rebecca Marcum, the census for both families place them both at home in 1850. James Marcum, father of Rebecca was a minister in Lawrence Co. Ky. Sam and Rebecca resided in Wayne County, Lincoln township untill 1880. Sam died sometime before the 1900 census as Rebecca is found as widow, with daughter Isabell and husband lewis Murray.
If your sanity remains after all these Sams... Contact me with you comments on my "more than positive" theory!
