Hi all.

Was wondering if anyone could help me on this?

Am working on my wife's family tree and am as far back as a Peter Ferguson who married a Janet Laurie (Daughter of James Laurie, Shoemaker, Michel Whitefield). Peter Ferguson is listed as Soldier, 2nd Regiment of Fencible Men. I have tried to research this topic but am getting myself confused.

Would this be of the 2nd regiment of fencibles raised in Sutherland by Wemyss? This would explain why I cannot find a Perth based Birth certificate for Peter Ferguson! I think I may have a death entry for a Jannet Ferguson in Perth of consumption about 1815 (cannot remember right now... written down somewhere!) but I would like to know more about Peter's military job. Were the fencibles disbanded in 1799 and if they were, did the soldiers generally move onto another regiment?

Sorry about the rambling post but I think I have left some of my notes at my parent's house! Doh!
