My husband's gr-gr-grandfather, W.R. (Riley) Cummons (Cummings) died on May 24, 1888 in Butte. Family lore says that he "officially" died after falling off of a wild horse, but he also had wounds resulting from an earlier knife fight. Riley's widow took his body back to Oregon and his family. Is there anything in Butte that would have recorded this death? Perhaps a newspaper or local coroner? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
