We have only a handful of Chowning men who have had the genealogical Y-DNA test but I think there have been just enough to demonstrate one of the ways that DNA testing can be very useful for the family researcher struggling with a partial and/or broken paper trail. This web page where the report is posted is one page of a small website provided by FamilyTreeDNA to host the Chowning Family surname project. I applied for and received approval in March of this year to establish a surname project and I am the project administrator. Just a couple of weeks ago we received the completed results and matches for two male cousins of mine that agreed to be tested to represent my line of the family. This project is open to all Chowning surname variants.  Joining the project gives members access to group discount rates for both initial DNA tests as well as upgrades to DNA tests already taken.
