Surnames: COLE, LEACH, LEMMON
My g-g-g-grandfather, Ezra Cole, and his wife Polly Velora Stratton moved to Downie Township from Jefferson County, New York in 1842. The couple, together with their son, George Lester Cole, lived in Downie until 1849 when they relocated to Waushara County, Wisconsin.
Prior to marrying Ezra, Polly had been married to Lemuel Leach. Lemuel died in the mid to early 1830's leaving his widow with four young sons. At least two of the Leach boys moved to Blanshard Township around the same time as Ezra and Polly moved to Downie. One son, John Leach married Betsy Lemmon (daughter of Joseph Lemmon) in Canada West (London District, Ontario) around 1847 and the couple shortly thereafter moved to Wisconsin. I have been unable to trace marriage records for John & Betsy in Ontario. Can someone point me in the right direction? Any and all info concerning the lives of the Leach, Cole and Lemmon families during this time period would be most welcome by this humble researcher. Incidentally, the Cole and Leach families eventually ended up homesteading in the Vegreville, Alberta area in 1901 and have remained there ever since.
