I'm still working on one of my problem ancestors James Armstrong. He was my great great grandfather. All I have on him came from my grandfather's, William Henry Armstrong, death certificate. It states that William's parents were named James and Mary and that they were both born in Ireland. It also states that William was born in Bay Ridge. The date of birth for William is anywhere from 1858 to 1862. I don't see a listing in the 1860 census that jumps out and says: "Hey its me." William died in Albany in 1930 and the death certificate shows he lived there for 65 years which would indicate he left Bay Ridge about 1865.
The attached image shows several James Armstrong's listed in the 1862 Brooklyn City Directory. I can't find a decent map that I can actually read, and I'm a bit fuzzy on the boundaries of Bay Ridge in the 1860s. Would any of those James Armstrongs listed have been considered to be in Bay Ridge?
