I am sad to report the recent death of James Logan Morgan, who was one of the best researchers of Arkansas history and especially early Jackson County history. James was killed in his home in Newport on August 19 by an intruder.

James' responses to others' questions about their family histories are scattered throughout this website and many others. He was well-known for helping anyone with a question.

He was a first class genealogist who had at least as much information in his mind as he did on paper.

His research was rock-solid. James wrote numerous articles for the Jackson County Historical Society's "Stream of History" and other publications. He was editor of the "Stream of History" for many years, too.

All of us who conduct historical research will feel this loss immediately, as no longer will we be able to "go ask James" for the answer.

James' life inspires all of us to be dilligent in our historical research to make our work as error-free as possible.

Thank goodness for the life and talent of James Logan Morgan. He will be greatly missed.
