I'm new to this whole ancestry.com business, and I've already run into something pretty strange. I recently found out that the man I've always believed to be my father (my mother's husband) is actually an adoptive father. I'm trying to find some information about my birth father (my mother will not discuss this). I did a search for my original name - Marianna Parris Yamzon - and a birth record came back for this name, and Marianna Parris Vallejos - same date of birth, mother's maiden name, and place of birth. In addition to this, my name last name was changed when I was adopted. A birth record did not come back for the adopted name, even though a new birth certificate was issued with the new name.

Is this normal? Does anyone have information about name changes and birth records? It seems very strange to me that there are two records with these two names, but not with the adopted name (considering that a new certificate was issued).
