I have noticed various entries for the city of London; e.g., London, London, England; London, Middlesex, England; Greater London, England.

In researching the web, there are indications that London (or parts of it) was (were) in the county of Middlesex until 1965 when Middlesex no longer existed as a county.

So, my question is: What location should be used for birth and death places of London prior to 1965? Does it matter?
