My ancestor George Sherar, who I cannot find the birth of, is supposed to have come from Leith, his parents were Francis Sherar and Janet Dingwall. I cannot find them either. Francis was a Wine and Spirit Merchant in Leith. George was indentured to a shipping company age 15-18, from 1828-1832. He came to Australia in 1833.
George had siblings, the ones I am sure of, one Francis who married Jane Rodgers. Sister Janet Sherar who married Robert Tait, and possibly moved to London. Francis his brother moved to Durham.He may also have had siblings, John, James and Adam. He did have cousins, Daniel and Isabella Shearer, Daniel and Isabella being brother and sister. Also George had a cousin John Gillon Shearer who also moved to Australia. Indeed the maided name of Daniel and Isabella's mother was Gillon/Gullon or other variants.
We have found a possible birth place for George's father, Francis, in Bower, CAithness. WE believe George's family originated in Caithness and some moved to Leith and settled.
