Surnames: SCOTT, Snider, Gardener
I am researching the family of David Scott who was born about 1830 in York State, United States. His 1870 Canadian marriage record (transcribed) lists his parents as Aaron Scott and Rhoda Elliot. I'm not absolutly certain about the accuracy of this transcription. David Scott died in Canada so there won't be any cemetery record of him there.

David earlier (1847 Canada) married Sarah Snider. I believe he had at least 2 sons with Sarah - George b. 1849 and Benjamin b. 1858. I think they were born in Canada though I've no proof where Benjamin was born.

I think David may have had a brother, Joseph, born about 1826. Joseph married Sarah Snider's sister, Hannah Snider in 1849. Of course, there's always the possibility that Joseph was of a completely different Scott family but I'm hoping he was related in some way to David.

At some point Joseph and Hannah and several children went to Sanilac Co. (I believe they were in Speaker at one time). Their son Levi born 1865 in Canada married Florence Hunt in 1894 at Smith Creek, St. Clair. The date of Levi's birth in Canada makes me think they didn't go to Michigan until some time after 1865.

Joseph married again 11 September 1875 in Sanilac to Harriet Gardener. They are on the 1880 Fremont, Sanilac Co., US census with some children only one of which belonged to Joseph and Hannah.

I am trying very hard to determine if David and Joseph were brothers. If I can find any other information on Jospeh it may help me to make the connection. There may have been other brothers as well although I have no proof of this. There was an Aaron Scott born 1842 living quite close to David Scott in Muskoka, Ontario and it was always thought that he was a brother but without the evidence I can't make any assumptions.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who thinks they might be abe to help..

Thanks very much.
