My great grandmothers name is Melissa White, but I know that White is a married. I believe that she also married a man whose last name is Wesley but I'm not sure what his first name is. Melissa was born probably sometime in the early or mid 1880s in Arkansas and the probable counties are either Jefferson or Pulaski. Her daughters name is Rosie E White who is my grandmother. Rosie was the 21st of March in 1910 in either Jefferson or Pulaski, Arkansas and died on the 19th of April in 1994 in Cleveland, Ohio. She married a man named Percy Stewart.
My father told me that Melissa was Half Black and Half American Indian. He also told me that she was raised by whites, but I hope that doesn't mean that she never gotten the chance to get tribally enrolled if she really was Half Indian. I can believe that she did have Indian blood because alot of people on my dads side and myself have stereotypical American Indian traits, like high cheek bones. Also around that time there was more American Indians in Arkansas and Indian Territory is right next door so maybe she stayed there for a little bit or something. Not sure about any tribes but it could possibly be Osage, Quapaw, or any of the 5 Civilized Tribes.
