I am searching for local (Mississippi) newspaper accounts of Tom Brown's arrest and murder trial. I believe he may have been my great, great uncle. He was accused of killing Mert D. Williams in Winona, MS in February 1902. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to hang in Montgomery County. On appeal, the case was moved to Carroll County. After two trials there, he was sentenced to life in prison. I believe he was later pardoned. This case is connected to the Oliver Bibb lynching. Bibb was killed because he gave Tom Brown the gun used in the murder.
