I'm 99% certain I'm a direct male-line descendant of Henry Head of Little Compton, Rhode Island (1647-1716), and I'd like to use Y-DNA to prove it. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, none of his other descendants have been tested by any of the genealogical DNA services.
If you're like me, and are waiting for others to "take the plunge" before you get tested, please reply to this post (online, not through email). If there are enough of us maybe we can motivate each other to get tested and post the results.
For info, I'm descended from a Henry Head of Plainfield, Connecticut who served in the CT Militia during the Revolution. He moved to Hartwick, Otsego Co., NY where he died c. 1826. Most of his descendants lived in Steuben Co., NY during the 1830s-1870s. My GGG-Grandfather (another Henry Head) served in the 104th NY Infantry during the Civil War.
I'm looking for descendants of other Head lines for comparison. I understand a number of the original Henry's descendants migrated to Dutchess, Monroe, and Livingston Counties (New York State) before the Revolution. Others remained in Little Compton into the 1800s. The more samples we have from different lines, the better!
Happy Head-Hunting
