Genealogists in Mecklenburg

Good morning,

I am trying to find the names of any Mecklenburg genealogists/historians/researchers/guides.

My ancestors lived in and around Biendorf and Westenbruegge parishes near the towns of Kropelin and Bad Doberan, between Rostock and Wismar. They emigrated to Canada in the 1850s.

In late April, my father will be travelling in Europe and may have the opportunity to take a few days and travel up into our ancestral homeland.

Challenges he is facing include: he doesn't speak German, he is unfamiliar with the area, and to date our research has all been done through the LDS Family History Centre and their stockpile of German church books - we have had no contact with resources in Mecklenburg.

If he is able to make it to the area, I'm looking for local genealogists/historians who may be able to help him out 'on the ground'. I understand that there may be a fee involved.

Please send me an email/post a reply if you have anyone in mind, or have any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Brandt Falkenhagen
