My great-grandmother, Myrtle (Hastings) Winslow, of Carney's Point, NJ, was a USO mom to dozens of servicemen (and at least one servicewoman) during World War II. Some of these men were from families associated with the DuPont Chambers Works in Carney's Point, others were in the 716th and 973d Ordinance and Ammunition Renovation Companies, which did their training at the nearby Army munitions depot before being posted overseas.
Myrtle maintained an active correspondence with these men and did a lot of sewing for the men posted at the munitions depot. The men sent her lots of pictures, both of themselves and their travels, and other souveniers. I have a box of photographs and newspaper clippings of these men and women. Many of the photographs are, unfortunately, unidentified, but there are also a good number with full or partial names. I would be honored to give these to the subjects or their families.
