Hi all,
Please can anyone help me? I am researching the Morgan family that lived in and around Coleford in the Forest of Dean. Unfortunitely I have no living grandparents to ask for help.
This is what I know (or think I know) ...
David George Morgan (my grandfather) born in Merthyr in 1892, baptised in Coleford in 1896. In the 1901 census he is living in West Dean. In 1918 he married Margaret Jane Davies in Pontypridd, South Wales and dies in 1950 in Pontypridd.
His father I believe is George Albert Morgan. I think he was born in 1860 in West Dean. I think I've found him in the 1961 census as living in West Dean and again in the 1871 census. In 1901 he lives in Broadwell Lane End with his son? There are rumours that he married twice, although I am unsure. Elizabeth Ann and Daiciy are mentioned. I think his profession is a general haulier in 1911 and he is now living in the Rhondda near Pontypridd? Can anyone shed any light on this? Is my information correct? (There are so many Morgans and George Morgans that I'm getting confused, sorry).
I think his father is George Morgan and he was born in Gloucestershire in 1824 although I think he was baptised in 1935. He could have been a colliery proprietor and a family member has told me that at one time he owned a mine called 'strip and at it'. I do not have any other information.
Now I'm clutching at straws but I think his father was Henry Morgan born in 1802 in Gloucestershire. He married Elizabeth Hawkins in 1828 in Gloucestershire and died in 1873.
I am unable to find Henry Morgan's parents, could anyone help on this?
I know I'm asking a lot, I would be grateful for any information.
Thank you very much. Xxx
