Anyone here know how the relationship listed under DNA matches are actually figured? I've been basing it on each person's steps (or generations) to "Most Recent Common Ancestor", then averaging those two figures to arrive at the value of a "cousinship", as in 5th, 6th, etc., without ever considering the 1x, 2x ... removed aspect of the relationship. Ancestry only ever gives two number values for the "possible range" of a relationship between two people. My question is - does Ancestry figure "times removed" - if it pertains - as separate generational steps for their range calculations?
