Doris "Dorie" Van Hoozen, 95, a resident of Covington Manor, Fort Wayne, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday (June 28, 1999) at the Covington Manor Nursing Center, Fort Wayne. He was a former resident of Seventh Street in Roanoke. Mr. Van Hoozen was a retired farmer and a member of the Aboite Township Farm Bureau. He was born Oct. 10, 1903 in Aboite Township, Allen County to Henry and Eleta Hayes Van Hoozen. He married Margaret McMaken in Whitley County Feb. 26, 1933. His wife died Oct. 4, 1998. Survivors include a son, Richard H. Van Hoozen, Roanoke; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) Becker, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Joyce Miller, Columbia City; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Clifton Van Hoozen, and a half brother, Frank Siminton, preceded him in death. Calling is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Roanoke Memorial Chapel, 240 Crestwood Dr., Roanoke, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
