My grandmother joined the DAR on Scurlocks did research starting in 1920's. I am trying to bring it up to the present day AND add picture graphics and possibly create a website. Anyone interested, please contact me...it must be a 2 way sharing. I will be going back down to the Scurlock burial sites in Jackson, Oh area soon (Jan/Feb---weather permitting). Therefore, I am interested in any information that you have that would support finding more info in Southern Ohio. (For those who live in the South...be sure you visit the Alamo in San Antonio. The book "Seekers of Freedom" is located in it. The book is about the branch of Scurlock's that went south from N.C. and the others went North...prior to the Civil War. My grandmother provided research for Mrs. Hackney who authored that book. Yes, Scurlocks did have slaves and those in the South took the family name when they were freed. There is a Scurlock Cemetery in Texas that was dedicated by the State in the 1970's. Two Scurlock brothers fought and one died in the Alamo. They came through MS and some of the Scurlock's stayed there. I am not a registered member of Ancetry.com so hope to hear from you through my e-mail.
