I recently had some free time to look in the 1940 US Census for various loose-end ancestors.
Today I discovered a previously unknown relation by the name of "Juanita Eason". She is about 18 years old, born in Illinois, and living with her aunt and uncle, Ella (nee Eason) and George Haley in Marion, Illinois. I'm very interested in determining whose child she is. I suspect she belongs to one of Ella's sisters, as I believe I have the names of all nieces from Ella's brothers and she does not belong to any of them.
Juanita's personal details indicate that her father was born in Missouri, and her mother in Illinois. This might connect her to Effie Eason, a sister to Ella Eason Haley, who we believe lived in St. Louis at one time.
I have now gone back and looked at the 1930 census for Marion, and have found the same family grouping living together: Ella & George Haley with their son Vernon and niece Juanita.
I can't find anything on Juanita or her potential mother, Effie Eason, in 1920.
To complicate matters, I just discovered another Juanita Eason in the 1940 US Census! This one is the same age, but living in The House of the Good Shepherd in St. Louis MO. Her place of birth is given as Marion, Illinois. This is a bit odd. The two 1940 enumerations were taken 6 days apart. Could Juanita have been shipped off to St. Louis shortly after being part of the census in Marion?
I'd love to hear from anyone with suggestions on this!
