I'm searching for any information on the Alting family from Holland. Meno (or Menno) Alting (1839-1908) and his wife Helen White (Jun 11, 1837-1906), her dutch name was Hielje De Wit Alting, arrived in Muskegon Co., MI in 1865. They traveled with thier oldest son, Garrett.
Their children are:
Garrett (or Geerrat) Alting, later went by the name of "George" was born on Mar 28, 1864 in Holland and died in 1910 at the age of 46. He owned a butcher shop in Detroit, MI.
Twin daughters, Grace and Alice Ella (dutch name was Aaltje) Alting were born on Jan 9, 1866 while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Grace died before they reached America. Alice Ella died on May 25, 1950 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI at the age of 84. She lived with her brother, Martin, in the family home that he and his father built at 1311 Ransom Street, Muskegon, MI. As far as I understand, Alice Ella and Martin never married, I don't know about Garrett.
Martin Alting was born about 1867 and died as an infant on Sep 7, 1868 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI.
Grutje M. Alting was born on Aug 28, 1868. She also died as an infant on Sep 11, 1868 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI.
Grace Alting (named after the twin daughter who died) was born on Aug 28, 1870. She married Palmer Kellogg on Jul 14, 1900 in Wayne, Wayne Co., MI. She died on Apr 2, 1949 in Detroit, Wayne Co., MI at the age of 78.
Martin M. Alting (he was named after the son who died as an infant in 1868) was born on Jul 19, 1872 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI and died on Oct 14, 1963 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI at the age of 91. He was a carpenter and a member of the Elks and Oddfellows.
Albert Alting (used the spelling "Allting") was born on May 4, 1878. He married Edith Johnson on Sep 24, 1901 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL. Chicago, Cook Co., IL. He worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in Chicago, Cook Co., IL and as a security guard for the Brunswick Company in Muskegon. Albert died in Apr 1967 in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI at the age of 89.
