Hello,
I am seeking information about my great-uncle and his family. He was born in or about 1904 somewhere in the Ukraine I am told. He immigrated to Canada some time during 1920 or 30's (I think since he married my great-aunt Mary Rayment around 1940?) after his family was killed during the Russian revolution I am also told. I am unsure of any family members he may have had back in the Ukraine. I have no idea what town or area he came from. I have no passport, baptism record or anything from his birth country. I don't have a passenger list for him either :-(
In Canada he went by the name Paul Panasuk - but could have been a variant of the name he used in the Ukraine (or something completely different). I do not know where to begin with tracing this fellow. Is there anyway I can confirm the proper spelling of his name, and his Ukrainian background - ie. where he may have come from in the Ukraine. He spoke English, but with a heavy (Polish and/or Russian) accent I think. He said he was from Russia. That I do remember from boyhood.
Thank you for any help you can give.
John
