Seeking any information on: Nicholai "Nicholas" Schaefer,Schafer,Schöffer b. abt. 1812 Prussia. He m. Catherina "Catherine" Engel b. abt. 1811 Prussia. Their first two children were b. in Prussia: Nicholas b. abt. 1838 & Jacob b. abt. 1841. Their next child was b. 11 May 1844 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. On one child's birth record in NY, the surname of Schöffer was listed. Not sure if it was an error or not.

I have no idea where in Prussia to look for birth, marriage or baptism records. I can't find any immigration records for the family. Any help is appreciated!
