There are two men that I can locate in California that have the approximate same name and some details are similar...so really need to look at two items for this particular man...
Frederick Sallender born 1837 Germany...
immigrated into New York harbor in 1851-52
Served in Civil War on the Union side...
Company H, 10th Wisconsin Infantry
listed as a POW on 20 Sept 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia...then later listed as "Absent prisoner" on 3 Nov 1864. Awarded Distinguished Service....
Census informaiton to go with this man:
1860 Webster, Bad Ax County, Wisconsin
1880 Sterling, Vernon County, Wisconsin
1900 Detroit Ward 13, Wayne County, Wisconsin
1920 Malibu, Los Angeles County, California
(living in the National Military Home)
last known:
950 South Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, Ca 90049
U.S. Veterans Cemeteries:
Frederick Sallender (could also be listed as Sallander)
U.S. Army
death date:25 Apr 1930
Los Angeles National Cemetery
Section 73, Row D, Site 16.
This is that man that was my ancestor...but there was another man of similar name and facts that come very close to those of my Frederick.
1880 Benicia, Solano, California (Frederick Sellander)
this man was born about 1842 in Norway!
And so I find I need both the death record and obituary article for the Frederick Sallender that is buried in the National Cemetery, death date of 25 April 1930.
Please note that I am currently trying to repair my hurricane damaged home....that I am a retired Navy man, and have very little funds that I can pay for either of these records at this point in time. I may be able to divert a few dollars, but not much.
So please contact me directly before spending any money on those two records:Death and Obituary.
