Descendants of Charles Henry Coleman and
Macedonia Ledesma Cruz are finding one another.
A reunion of about 50 of us is scheduled for
May 29-30 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We'll
gather at San Albino's historic church in
Las Cruces and then have dinner at La Posta
Restaurant in Old Mesilla. Charles and
Macedonia met at Dona Ana Plaza in 1849. He
was a German immigrant; she was an Indian
Hispana. Charles became one of the founding
fathers of Las Cruces, he was with the
Butterfield Stage, Las Cruces, first paid
policeman and a soldier in the U.S. Army's
First Dragoons, Company H at Fort Fillmore.
He was instrumental in bringing about a
peaceful meeting with Apache Chief Cochise
in the Dragoon Mountains.
Macedonia came with one of the earliest founding
families of Dona Ana. Her parents were
Bitalia Valencia Ledesma and Manuel Cruz.
Her granddparents were Domingo Ledesma and
Andrea Valencia in the original mission
settlement of Guadalupe del Paso, Nuestra
Senora de Guadalupe. Today it is Ciudad Juarez.
If you're part of these grand families,
contact one of us.
