I am working on a project to reconstruct the passenger list for the General Slocum. When this excursion vesel sank in 1904 there were varing reports from about 800 to about 1400 persons lost or injured in the fire or by drowning when they jumped overboard. In my family there were 15 known persons aboard of whom 5 died. This included 3 children, a grandmother, lost; a father and toddler from one household and a 12 year old from another all burned but recovered. And a policeman, who came to the rescue not realizing it was the boat his wife and 3 daughters were on, until he got there in his police capacity. He could not find his family until he identified them at the morgue later. (He lost a wife and 3 daughters)What is your connection to this event?
