Hi
I am researching the Sheffield Flood (12th March 1864) and am trying to locate the graves of as many of the victims as possible, with a view to then further researching their family line.
This was the worst man-made disaster in English history when over 240 people perished in what is now a forgotten tragedy. Of these 240 people there are 102 different names involved and I have listed these below.
I would very much like to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related or from anyone who would like to know more about a particular name. I will happily supply the information I have on each individual.
ALBERT APPLEBY ARCULUS ARMITAGE ATKINSON BAGSHAW BARKER BARRATT BATES BETHEL BISBY BONSER BOOTH BOWER BRADBURY BRIGHT BROUGHTON BULLARD BURKINSHAW CHAPMAN CLAY COGGAN COLTON COOK CRAPPER CROOKES CROSS CROWNSHAW CRUMP DAMMS DAWSON DEAN DENTON DYSON EATON ELSTON ETCHES (or ETCHELL or ETCHING) FAIREST FOULDS FRITH GANNON GILL GILYETT GLOVER GODDARD GREEN GREGORY HAGUE HALL HAWKSLEY HAZELHURST HILL HUDSON HUKIN IBBOTSON JEPSON JOHNSON KAY KING LONGLEY MAPPIN MARSHALL MAYOR McLAUGHLIN MERRYMAN MIDWOOD MILLS MOUNT NEEDHAM PEACOCK PEARSON PETERS PETTY PICKERING PLATTS PRICE RADFORD RILEY RYDER SELLARS SEYNOR (or SENIOR) SIMPSON SNAPE SPARKES SPOONER TAYLOR TINGLE TRICKETT TURNER TURTON VARNEY VAUGHAN WALLACE WATERS WATSON WEBSTER WILLETT WINTER WOLSTENHOLME WRIGHT YEARDLEY
If you have a connection with any of these names and would be kind enough to send me a brief outline of your family, I will happily keep this on file and let you know if I ever find a connection.
Thanks to all and look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards
