My great-grandfather's brother, Sake Sjaarda immigrated to the United States with his wife, Jeltje and 6 children: 5 sons and one daughter. They left Amsterdam sailing on the Zaandam and arrived in New York on 14 May, 1888. Any descendants would be my closest living relatives in the U.S. I have searched for this family for nearly ten years but still cannot find where they settled and what happened to them. I suspect they may have gone to the Chicago area since Jeltje's mother and step-father had gone there nearly a decade earlier. However, I have exhausted all the Cook County records without results. The names of the children were: Jan, Aafke, Kornelis, Geert, Tjeerd and Jacob. If you ever come across these names in any records, please let me know. Janet Sjaarda Sheeres. Thank you so much.
