The 2nd wife of Dr. Levi
Minard was Mary Nelson born Nov. 22, 1820 prob. in Scotch Village died Nov. 29, 1904 aged 84 yrs. in
Brooklyn. She is buried in a Methodist Cem. in
Poplar Grove (
Oakland). Her parents were Thomas Nelson Sr. died 1845 aged 65 yrs., and
Barbary (sic)....... d. 1844 aged 64 yrs. I believe that
Barbary was a
SMITH, d/o William
SMITH who m. a
Macumber, and grand-dau. of James
SMITH (Scottish) the
Newport Grantee. Mary Nelson was not the widow of
Capt. Absalom
SMITH. Mary Nelson had a brother, William Nelson 1805-1883 who m. Elizabeth
Lockhart 1813-1884. They had a son, William
Johnson Nelson b. May 21, 1845 d. 1912 in
California. He was the person to whom, Dr. Minard sold his liniment formula. William
Johnson Nelson married Martha
SMITH who d. in
California Mar. 28, 1902 in her 60th year. She was one of nine daughters of
Capt. Absalom
SMITH.

SMITH died Aug. 16, 1869 aged 65 years, bur. Methodist,
Oakland. He m. (1)
Barbary ....... who d. Dec. 23, 1847 aged 42 years, bur. Methodist,
Oakland. Capt. Absalom
SMITH m.(2) Mary L. Smith (I believe she was born a
SMITH, and had a brother Samuel
SMITH.) Mary L. Smith died Dec. 23, 1899 aged 68 years, 8 months. (no inscription found in Methodist,
Oakland.) There was a son by the 2nd wife - Ephraim
Embree SMITH d. Jan. 8, 1854 aged 19 months, bur. Methodist,
Oakland. A 2nd dau. of
Capt. Absalom
SMITH - Catherine
SMITH 1829-1907 m. William A. Mosher 1826-1901. I do not know the names of the other daughters.
