Does anyone have any information related to the family of Mary Morris Stafford. She was the daughter of Alford Monroe Stafford. If anyone has this person in their line and would care to share please contact me.

I'm looking for any information regarding this line. I know she was a daughter of Alford Monroe. I can't find anything before him. Do you know where she is buried? I would just like to compare what I have and hopefully get beyond this barrier.

A pamphlet was found by another family member stating that he was from VA. I have been hunting for information on Alford/Alfred for the last 5 years and haven't found anything yet. As far as where Mary/Polly may be buried, the last residence was shown was in Buncome Co. But no other information. They lived with Alfred in their late years from what I had found.
You can email me at babydoll@onetexun.com and the research I have may help you in some way.

I have a book done by my great grandfather, Christy Leroy Stafford and many other relatives published in 1938. It also has the Deal (Diehl) genealogy. It is about the descendants of Alford Monroe Stafford and Martha Elizabeth Foster, whose father was Isaac Foster of SC. Alford Monroe was the son of John Stafford who was the son of William Stafford and Frances Mason who emigrated to Virginia from England in 1622. They are all part of my line.

Some say William was married to Anne Mason. If you know if this was the same or different person as Frances, please let me know. It is possible he was married to both sisters according to one source. I have just started to research him. Apparently, he was the ward of Francis Mason who seems to have transported people to the colonies. It may even be that William worked aboard ship and sailed the ocean more than once before settling in Elizabeth City, VA. See http://immigrantservants.com/servant/show.php?servant=6333

The Stafford/Deal book says Mary Moris (one "r") was born 14 Jan 1822. No DOD given. It lists her husband as Nimrod Lunsford, Jr., son of Nimrod Lunsford, Sr. and Rebecca Foster. Mary Morris is the sister of my direct ancestor John Richard Stafford: b. 29 Nov. 1819, d. 5 Sep 1888.

The Lunsfords and the Staffords intermarried quite a bit and were founding families of what is now Alexander County, NC. The cemetery where many of the Staffords and Lunsfords are buried is Friendship Evangelical Lutheran in Bethlehem (Wittenburg community) although the mailing address is Taylorsville, NC.

The associate pastor at the church is getting me a book of the church history.

I have put much of the Stafford/Deal book I have on my family tree and tried to add to it with additional research. If you send me your user name or email, I'll connect you to it.

You may already know most of this. If so, perhaps it will help someone else.

In my last post I forgot to say that more about Nimrod Lunsford, Sr. whose first wife was Jennie McCombs. Their children were Jerry (married to Nancy C. Stafford, dau of Alford Monroe Stafford), William, Eli, and Cynthia.

Nimrod, Sr.'s second wife was Rebecca Foster. Their children were John, Anna (m. Daniel Page), Celia (b. abt 1815, m. Jerry Price), Vina (m. William Washington Stafford, son of Alford Monroe Stafford), Cena (married John Richard Stafford, son of Alford Monroe Stafford), and Nimrod, Jr.

As I said earlier, there was a good bit of intermarriage between the two families. The tree gets quite convoluted.

You may also want to check Madison & Buncombe co.'s - some of the Lunsfords moved to that area sometime before mid 1800's - they intermarried some with the Payne families - who also came from what was to become Alexander co. - the Payne family lived between what is now Antioch Bap. Ch. area - and Wittenburg community. (not the Payne families that lived in what is now Eastern Alex. Co.)

Hi,
When I went back to tie the Wm Stafford/Francis Mason the dates don't match up down the line in one area. In other words, someone is missing in between-one was either too young to have a child or too old. Have been working and have'nt been able to work on this lately. Can't remember which Stafford didnt connect. My line is thru Alford, sons John Richard Stafford-grandfathers side and Alfred Franklin Stafford on my grandmothers side. C. Nimrod Lunsford Jr and Mary Moris moved to Haywood Co. which changed to Buncombe Co. later. They had 15 children. Gene (who replied) can tell you more about the family on that end than I can.
Hopefully I will be able to work on this again soon.

The Old Cemetery/Nimrod Lunsford Burial Grounds is property of Nimrod Lunsford Sr. where all our relatives are buried. Nimrod done this in order for all his relatives and descendents could be buried there Forever. There is paperwork in the courthouse archives on this also. My understanding is that it is a touchy subject between the Church and Family. This has been taken to court twice that I know of.
